Send a message to the person who requested a photo of the grave monument of William Bishop with the following comment:

William Bishop was the younger brother of my direct ancestor, Richard Bishop, who settled in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA in 1811. William was also a member of the Royal Society in London from 1822 until his death in 1875. His mother was Sarah Greentree originally of Godalming and father was Richard Bishop also baptized at Godalming. The Bishops were corn dealers and flour factors whose origins were the Godalming, Farncomb, High Mill, Frensham areas of Surrey. They later moved into The London’s areas of Southwark and Middlesex in the later 1700s- 1800s as they made their fortunes. William died in 1875 at his home at Chepstow Villas, Kensington/Chelsea at the age of 92 , leaving money to many hospitals and charities in the London area. He left his home and contents with a large endowment to his housekeeper of 30 years, Leah Sillence, who is buried here with him. The rest of his estate was given to the surviving children of his older brother,Richard, in Pittsburgh,USA.
